3 Practical Ways to Generate Reports With AMOS

The more you work with AMOS, the better you understand it, and the more data you want to extract from it. As one of our customers (an experienced, long-time AMOS user) put it:

“The longer you use the system, the more reports you need.”

It’s no surprise that reporting needs naturally grow as usage deepens. AMOS offers several ways to generate and access reports, making it easy for both new and experienced users to expand their reporting capabilities. Reports can be added as links in the Applications menu, assigned an APN number for direct access, or scheduled to be delivered by email.

Below, we highlight three different ways to generate reports in AMOS.

1.   APN 966 - Report Designer

APN 966 - Report Designer is a reporting tool, which allows users to create their own reports using a custom built data source.

The access to APN 966 is usually restricted to AMOS Admins, and Swiss-AS recommends taking the basic report designer training to use the module effectively.

Very simple to complex reports can be designed with this APN.

Follow these steps to create a simple report in AMOS:

1.      Open APN 966 – Report Designer.

2.      Click on the Report Button to open the Report Browser.

3.      Click on the New Folder/New Report to create a new folder/new report.

4.      Give a name for the report.

5.      Add a table element to Content Area.

6.      Navigate to the Data Source.

7.      Click on New Data Source-> New SQL Editor Data Source and name the source.

8.      Click on Edit SQL to add the query to the data source and then on OK and Save to save the data source.

9.      In the Attributes of the table element , set the Data Source to the newly added data source.

10.   Rename the table columns to the required headers.

11.   Drag and drop the data source fields to the table columns.

12.   Click on Preview to preview the report.

2.   SQL saved in web-drive

Any SQL query used to generate a report can be stored in the web drive. This allows you to access the report whenever needed by linking the SQL file through APN 10 → Customize Applications.

To set it up:

  • Choose New Link in the desired menu location

  • Point the link to the stored SQL in the web drive.

This provides quick access to custom SQL reports without navigating deeper technical component.

3.   APN 2606 - AMOS Scheduler

Any SQL report that needs to be generated on a periodic basis can be generated from APN 2606 – AMOS Scheduler using the DataSourceExporterTask. This is ideal for scheduled deliveries, regular operational reporting, and automated data extraction workflows.

1.      Open APN 2606 – AMOS Scheduler

2.      Select New Scheduler Task – Choose DataSourceExporterTask

3.      Give a name for the task and enter the query in the SQL Source.

4.      Choose the Output format.

5.      Choose if the results are to be saved in a shared location or sent by email.

6.      If the results are to be sent by email, enter the recipients.

7.      Set a schedule on the task.

8.      Click on Save to start the scheduler.

Conclusion

Each of these methods gives AMOS users more control over how and when they generate reports. Whether you're building advanced layouts, running on-demand SQL, or automating scheduled outputs, AMOS provides flexible tools to meet growing reporting needs.
