How Can We Enrich Data in the MRO/M&E System to Improve Data Integrity and Quality

Aircraft data enrichment is the process of enhancing available aircraft data with relevant context from other sources. Data enrichment will ensure data validity and enhances data by adding relevant meta-data where possible. Through this process common data standards will be introduced to ensure high data integrity and validity in the future.

To enhance data integrity and standards in your MRO/M&E software system consider the following 4 steps:

  1. Identification - What data needs to be enriched and why

What data needs to be enriched and why

Identify what data sets have to be enriched and why.

Is a top up required with additional new data?

Are existing data sets/fields to be updated?

    How impactful is the exercise?

  2. Source - What is the source of the data

To enrich, a data source is required. determine if this source is available and up to date. What is the source format and is it structured? (Eg. digital, paper, EXCEL, PDF, database?). When possible, resort to official data sets from OEM’s or vendors.

  3. Manual or automated

When it comes to data enrichment, there can be an overwhelming amount of data. A lot of time can be saved when these processes are automated. Manual interference should only be a last resort if there are no automated solutions.

It is recommended to check this with an expert as more things can be done digitally than many realize.

  4. Recurring sources - Is the data enriching a repetitive task?

In some cases, data enrichment is required because certain data sets got outdated. But over time this could happen again. To ensure the data is always up to date it can be useful to introduce a process that keeps the data future proof.

Determine if it is useful to make it a repetitive automated process or that it can be managed on demand. (proactive vs reactive)
